About Vases
We stock an enormous variety of high quality vases from leading brands in just about every type you could imagine. From simple, classic vases to contemporary creations with eye-catching designs, the choice is so plentiful that half the fun is deciding which ones are your favourites. When it comes to decorative accessories for the home, a vase offers an instant solution to inject colour, shape, style and vibrancy into any room. With prices starting from under £10 and rising to almost £100 there really is a vase to suit your budget as well as your lifestyle.

History
Many years ago the humble vase was used by Ancient Greeks to depict actual scenes, thereby creating a whole new form. The design generally kept to a standard format with the shape comprising the foot (base), the main body, the shoulder (where the body tended to curve inwards), the neck and finally the lip where the edge flares outwards. A large number also possessed carrying handles on one or both sides. More recently vases became decorated with pretty patterns or floral designs, which made them very desirable and sought after as home accessories. Nowadays the emphasis has firmly shifted to contemporary design and shape, with a focus on objects that seamlessly blend in with their modern surroundings. Handmade glass has become increasingly popular and a large amount of vases can be truly classified as being unique specimens as a result of this.

Brands
As you would expect for a highly popular product such as the vase, competition in the marketplace is extremely keen and brands are continually seeking to keep up with current trends and fashions. For sheer quality, reputation and range LSA are one of the leading names in vases, offering handmade glassware of the highest standard. Collections including Zofia, Helene, Odile, Lucie and Vivi offer a broad selection of vases from delicate and elegant to bold and beautiful. Danish-based Eva Solo are well known for their cutting-edge design and contemporary style - their range of Florentine vases provide a modern, minimalist look that oozes sophistication. The Swing vases by Normann Copenhagen take funky design to a whole new level. Normann has quickly become established as a major player in state-of-the-art homeware with a totally refreshing philosophy on all things stylish.

Design of Vases
Vase design has evolved into an art form in its own right with ground-breaking creations being put together by some of the world’s premier designers. Interestingly, all of the vases produced by LSA have come from just one person - Monika Lubkowska-Jonas, the daughter of Janusz Lubkowski, one of LSA’s founders. Coloured glass has been increasingly popular while vases are even being designed purely with decoration and style in mind rather than simply as a carrier of flowers and stems – basically vases are now seen as an extension of the modern contemporary lifestyle.

Types of Vases
Vases are available in so many shapes and forms that it’s often challenging to narrow down what would be right for your individual needs. Some vases are just fine on their own and are actually intended to be used as a decorative accessory while others are complemented by adding an appropriate flower arrangement. The ingenious new Flower range from LSA has even been specially developed so that each vase has a specific use, making it easy to choose a suitable display. The collection includes a sprig vase, single stem vase, round bouquet vase and grand bouquet vase. Make a real feature on a window ledge or table by using more than one of the same range - for example the Normann Swing vases are available in three different sizes to give you that option.

Coloured Vases
This is where the fun begins. Once you have a good idea of the style and look you are trying to achieve, the exciting part is selecting colours and shades that will enhance the overall feel of the room. Modern vases in bright reds and greens will have a powerful impact, especially against a neutral or white backdrop, whereas soothing pale blue or purple tones, such as those found in the Helene or Orietta collections by LSA will provide a much more relaxing and tranquil environment. As Turquoise has been unveiled as the must-have colour for spring/summer 2010, introducing this vivid colour to your living room or bedroom will ensure you are on trend this year. Both the LSA Odile vase and LSA Helene vase can be purchased in turquoise and either would do a great job!

Gifts
Of course, beautiful vases should not just be limited to your own home and almost all would make great gift ideas for friends and family. A wide price range enables you to choose the right vase within a set budget, while the longevity of a vase means it will be kept as a lasting reminder of your style and good taste. Since each vase is presented in an attractive gift box, it makes this gift suggestion even more appealing.
